The OC

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

That’s right. I made it to the OC! Picked up by the lovely Kat and the stunning Jeff last night, the most delicious dinner at Opah (I can feel my rear end expanding already) and then home! I must say, before I forget, the BIGGEST thanks to Kat and her mom for letting me crash the party and putting a roof over my head! Big hugs and kisses to you both!

My last day in San Diego…

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

The day started with rain so on my way back from the Greyhound station I picked up some butterscotch schnapps and a bottle of milk and me and Jay and some others are chilling out watching some daytime tv.

Well, that’s all from this fine city…you stay classy San Diego…

Oh…

…and yes Jay, you are indeed 25…not 24.

Lazy days…

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Well I was woken up at 9am for breakfast, cheers Christian. We struggled through pancakes (you really do get sick of them) and did some computer stuff, watched Jay sleep in the tv room then hit the streets. Off to Ross’ again and I picked myself up 5 more t-shirts. Then it was off to Horton Plaza to find Pac Sun for more good bargains…4 more t-shirts later and we were off wandering again. We found the store with massage chairs and they even had an exercise machine that was like a surfboard. You stand on it while it moves and it tightens your core…cool.

So I spent about $100 and got 9 t-shirts…not a bad deal. They were a mix of Billabong, Fox, Hurley, Roxy and Volcom. I developed this bad habit over Christmas last year and started buying clothes instead of doing laundry…works for me!
Back to the hostel and we found Jay on the couch still but he had changed clothes since…always a good sign. We gazed blankly at the tv then went and grabbed a quick drink at the bar that Jay got kicked out of on Friday night. Back to the hostel, sent Christian on his way to Tucson and back on the laptop again. A couple of reruns on tv, some dinner, and that brings us to now…

Oh, and today I found out that if you ask for a vodka and lemonade you probably won’t get it coz the bar doesn’t have any lemonade…you have to specifically ask for 7-Up or Sprite…good to know!

Well San Diego, I didn’t think I’d enjoy it as much as I did, but the past four days have proved to be much fun. Now it’s off to recreate some fun with Kat. Up to Orange County for our first reunion since last April! Here I come!!

Round Two…

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

This morning everyone was feeling up for a day of outdoor activities. Starting with Bloody Mary’s the day was looking good. We stopped off at Ross’ Discount Clothing and did some random cheap shopping. Jay picked himself up a pair of flip-flops and a grandpa jersey. I grabbed a Roxy and Hurley t-shirt for just under $16 all up. By time it actually came to leaving we were all sitting in a dose-y-like state in the tv room watching Mexican wrestling and race car driving. We managed to drag ourselves out in time for happy hour at a tapas bar with $10 pitchers of sangria and half-price tapas. We wandered back to the hostel and me and Christian broke of from the group and went to TJ for dinner. Why? you ask…coz we already paid for a daily trolley pass and wanted to get out of the hostel for his last night in San Diego. So we hopped on the trolley, crossed the border like pros, found that TJ is dead at 8pm on a Sunday night. In any case, we endeavoured and followed the music which lead us to a “Taco Bell” (not the USA branded one) and the most typical dodgy Mexican décor ever! With 99 cent Coronas and 3-for-$1 tacos you can’t go wrong! A little tip: don’t get taco juice in your eye coz it burns. After 6 tacos, 2 Coronas and a Pepsi we were off again. You just can’t beat a $5 dinner with a $2 tip split between two people!

Saturday is TJ Day!!

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

The day started off with pancakes…as it does. I was scoffing them down when some weary looking people sat down at the table next to me. Turns out that one of them had his birthday the night before. He will now be referred to as Jay. Birthday boy, the Swedish guy and the guy from Santa Cruz asked if I was going to Tijuana…why yes. So we all teamed up, met at 1pm, picked up a stray Korean girl and crossed the border. TJ was just as I remembered it with cheap beer and tacos and all the scary-ass souvenirs you could wish for…my favourite were the glass blade knives!! The best tacos you could imagine!
We wandered aimlessly (thankfully Fabian knew where he was going) and went up Revolucion. Fabian asked some cops where good cheap beer and food was and didn’t listen to them and went to a random restaurant. 99 cent beers, a 2-for-1 pitcher of margaritas, some nachos and we were set!
The night wore on and we didn’t pick up any souvenirs and by 8pm, we were done and heading back over the border.

They were my best friends (for three days)
