The end of an era

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

I am both shocked and saddened that after four years, my lovely (read: horrid) purple and yellow website has been replaced!!

I do take solace in the fact that the logo I recreated for them has been reused. I’m pretty sure they used my one as I can still see where I couldn’t quite round off one of the lines

As much as I loathed the site that I (and two others made as a part of a project for ELCM320) I am very sad to see it go. TopSpec will remain in my heart forever. Caine and David/Mike/I’m pretty sure his name was David will forever be my partners in crime (who I have not spoken to since the paper ended).

Now I’m wishing that I had taken screenshots…sigh.

Happy Halloween

Okay, so it’s a little early but never too early for a dose of Common Craft’s Zombies in Plain English!

Granity?

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

I didn’t know this place existed (bad Kiwi bad) and the website leaves a bit to be desired but I still find this all so cute! Totally loving the promo vid of Granity Infinity (it’s stuck in my head now) and loving the contact page, specifically:

Contact information:
1. Please send email [ hiro@granity-nz.com ] to Hiro.
2. Please knock on the door of Mary’s house.

I think I heart him and small town NZ.

Who I heart

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

In no particular order:

yunfengfu: how awesome is this guy?! He can play guitar AND sing!! I heart him.

Tom Judd: winner of Cut&Paste London 2007. I heart him (although his girlfriend might have a few words to say about that one…)

Benni: for using Google for everything and letting me check my email even though I was meant to be on holiday. I heart him.

The week in review

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

What a week! Okay, a quick catch up.

The residential: I was one of the long-stayers and ended up staying up til 4am, going back to my room, watching Jeremy Kyle and falling asleep never finding out who was the baby-daddy…
Then woken up at 7:45am by the moggin’ fire alarm and then again by someone knocking on my door NOT looking for me. Then the morning started off with a “Giving Feedback” workshop. The guy didn’t like me because I dared to question his statement, “There is no failure, only feedback.” I will leave it at that…
Good thing was during one of our breaks I got a phone call saying that I had won two tickets to see the Philharmonia Orchestra…cool! I may have won a BT internet radio too but I’m not so sure on that one. We’ll see.

Cut&Paste: I found this in one of the tube papers on Friday night and HAD to go. It was awesome. Battling digital designers is the equivalent of my heaven! Mog was sick so I ventured down to Brick Lane on me own. It was uber busy in town because of the rugby (go South Africa) and I ended up following people who looked like they knew where they were going. One guy was actually going to the same place. The guy I wanted to win from the start won, Tom Judd. His visual diaries are amazing! If only I had talent…

Pigeon: while I was waiting for the train at Finchley Road a met line train pulls up, the doors open and two freaked out girls were standing in the doorway when a pigeon flew out of the carriage. I actually felt really bad and just stood staring at the poor bird. It would have got on at Baker Street (at the very least) and got off at Finchley Road not knowing where the heck it was. If birds could show emotion then I could have sworn that it was scared! It was looking around like crazy seemingly trying to figure out where the heck it was. I really felt like putting it on the southbound met line train so it could go back to where it came from. (I reliase that they have good senses of direction but still!)

Radiohead: I also had a dlilemma the other week. How much should I pay to download In Rainbows? Should I be a cheapass and only paying the starting 1p (plus 45p for processing) or should I pay more? The thing is I would never usually buy or listen to Radiohead but I wanted to be a part of the revolution. So no I’m not going to say how much I paid for it…

Philharmonia Orchestra: got back from that today and it was actually pretty cool. Me and Mog ended up in box seats with a great unobstructed view. I didn’t recognise a single bit of it but it was still cool. Funny thing was everyone seemed to wait til the breaks in music to cough. Strange. Then we went and had Wagamama’s for dinner with yummy ginger cheesecake.

Maybe time for an early night…

I have purple eyes

And I’m posting from the residential when I could be downstairs having a nice drink before dinner. Geek.

Corporate hair

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

I’ve always loved the corporate mohawk look – otherwise known as the “faux hawk” made famous by David Beckham. But the other day I saw something that looks good in theory but in practice is just plain silly. I saw a guy with a corporate emo thing going on with his hair…wrong, plain wrong!

London Post

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Yay for the strikes being over. I’ve received packages every day since the postal workers stopped striking!

Today was a book that I had bought off eBay but already read (thanks to finding it on Meg’s bookshelf) and two pairs of coloured contacts that I just can’t wait to wear!!!

Crazy people

Monday, October 15th, 2007

I like listening to dance music on my iPod at 8am…which, according to this post, makes me a crazy person. What better way to start the day than with upbeat music that has positive connotations? Maybe she wasn’t too far off the crazy person remark though as I also head-bop along to music on my iPod.

Well, we didn’t get to eat a hamburger in Hamburg but we had fun anyway! Benni met us at the bus stop on Friday, Saturday was easy going with a bus tour of the city and food. Saturday night had me in bed before 1am thanks to a little friend (now enemy) called Havana and Coke. Sunday was a miniature Wunderland followed by more food and a sleepy train, bus, flight, bus, car ride combo home. Good work on Stansted for having it’s supply of cute airport staff for both our journeys though…two thumbs up!
