New Year's Resolutions – Episode I

Monday, January 7th, 2008

It’s about that time of year where I should put up a pretty set of New Year’s resolutions. I’ve never been a big one for these because people shouldn’t save them up for the New Year, they should just do them when they think of them. Blah blah…here we go (in no particular order):

  • launch my website – that I have been planning since 2004
  • get back into the gym junkie mode I loved oh-so much but have drifted from since September 2006 *shock horror*
  • post photos to this blog more regularly – bad me
  • learn Spanish – I shall battle through trying not to learn the Spain version and try to keep to a more Mexican style but it’s gonna be a toughie being on this side of the world
  • learn sign language – my main hang up with this one has been whether to learn the American version because so many tutorials are available on YouTube, the British version because it’s more similar to the Kiwi version but probably more widely used or the Kiwi version to stay true to my roots… yes I’m just procrastinating, maybe I’ll put this one on the backburner…
  • go to a music festival – any one will do
  • plan for my next big snowboarding adventure – and possibly finally learn how to do some tricks before I get too old

That’s about all I can think of for now. Undoubtedly there will be an Episode II somewhere down the line and I can add to/backtrack on this post.

weekends

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Off to March again this weekend. Being the social butterfly he is, Dominic was out for most of the day on Saturday. Elisha, Belinda and I had fish and chips with Uncle Michael and learnt how to play Backgammon (I swear it wasn’t as confusing as he made it sound!). We dragged Elisha out for a walk and that gave me the idea to go on eBay and buy cheap movies (oh dear). Then we moved onto Boggle which proved to be much fun (once they told me what the rules were!!!).

Today we went out to Sandringham and had a look at stinky farm animals and Dominic had candy floss for the first time (the first time???) and took heaps of pics of the kids climbing trees and generally being monkeys.

Et's beyoodeefull!

My precious has arrived! Okay, so my precious, part II. That’s right… after pining after the EEE pc since 24 September (I checked back on my blog) I finally bought one! It’s small and not as good as the ones that are sold out but it’ll do the trick. Now to deck it out with pretty little accessories…

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

New Year’s Eve day we went to Kutná Hora to see the ossuary there and eat Czech food and have a walk around the town.

New Year’s was random crazy in Prague! We were actually pretty sleepy and didn’t feel like going out (sad sacks) but how often are you in Prague for New Year’s and how often do you spend two years planning it?! So out we went into a square nearby our hostel and fireworks were going off everywhere just like the websites told me. People were letting them off left, right and centre. Absolute mayhem. A real difference compared to the safe pyrotechnics let off in Wellington Harbour… The major difference was the lack of pretty sparkle and more loud bang. Maybe it’s because it’s the closest I’ve been to real fireworks (not those kiddie safe ones that they sell in NZ). It was an early night but a good one nonetheless.

Unfortunately since the Czech Republic joined the EU prices have soared. I knew it wasn’t going to be as cheap as it used to be but I was not prepared for UK prices! £4 for a large McChicken combo, that’s more expensive than here! Go figure.

Also interesting to note was the huge number of Italians (and Kiwis) in Prague! I had fun explaining “Dog’s Bollocks” to a group of Italian guys who had a guy in the group whose nickname was “cane”.

The best thing about New Year’s in Prague was the fact that we woke up to snow on the 1st! And it doesn’t usually snow in Prague at this time of year but what a way to start the year!! It’s gonna be a great year!
