pm vs yp

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

You learn something new every day. Well at least I did today. Who woulda thought that pm in Welsh is yp?! Good thing I thought to Google it before changing the website.

the Frankfurt blurgh

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Frankfurt was fun… except waking up sick on the Saturday and not getting better until Monday!

When I got there I was trying to figure out the tickety-boo machine and went to double check the map to make sure “City” meant Frankfurt. That’s when a guy came up to me and asked if I needed help. He didn’t speak much English and asked, “Where did you come from? Japan?” I wasn’t sure if he meant in general or where did my flight start. If it was the latter then he’d have to be a little nutty because I had a daybag on… how many people travel from Japan to Germany with only a daybag?

intonation

Friday, February 15th, 2008

I am both shocked and horrified. Last night Polly remarked on my rising intonation that is characteristic of all Kiwis and I said that I can’t hear it and have never been able to recreate/mock it. Until today, of course! I was at work and heard myself do it. How wonderful.

white gold

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

A snippet of my afternoon: bought a “white gold slice”, took a bite, eeuuww, thought I could eat it, I couldn’t, ate too much to then give to someone else, sigh.

translucent

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

I have become increasingly worried about the colour of my skin. It didn’t take long for my skin to go pastey white. So white, in fact, that it almost looks translucent…

half a kg of yoghurt

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Is it right to eat half a kg of yoghurt by lunchtime? It was raspberry if that makes a difference? I may have to ponder this one.

happy belated birthday

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

I knew I forgot something! I completely forgot my first blogging birthday! One whole year of blogging. I am proud

sad christmas

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

I came across this article today, this line in particular: “Older women are going home with nothing. It’s been a sad Christmas for many of them.”

It is now a legal profession in New Zealand and is thus taxed by the government but that sentence just reads strange.

gym bunny

Monday, February 4th, 2008

My first day back at the gym! I’d forgotten how much I loved it. The lockers, the elliptical, the classes, the sweating, the bottles of water… I’m officially hooked again!

I never thought I’d say this but one of the best parts of this gym in particular is the presence of Sky Sports! Three whole channels of it! Which made it exceptionally easy to jump on the elliptical for my cooldown. I just popped on Sky Sport and watched some snowboard half-pipe challenge… ah, bliss.

efficiency

Friday, February 1st, 2008

I pose myself a question: has my RSS reader made my life too efficient?
No, really. I realise that the point of all these gadgets and bits and bobs are designed to make our life more efficient, delivering information in a timely fashion ad infinitum, but has it actually killed the purpose of having these sites?

My favourite lunchtime pastime for many years now has been to check all the websites that I love to see what is new (sad I know) but now it is all delivered to Google Reader and sits there waiting for me to read.

Does this mean I should actually be out there enjoying the sun (and wind) and spending my lunchtimes on something more useful? (Like watching clips on YouTube.)
