the muffin man

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Simply walking from work to meet Eddy in Covent Garden sure does pose a lot more to write than one would have ever thought. I found my local supplier of chocolate soy milk… that’s what happens when you wander into the health food and supplements store.
I wandered on and saw a kid with weird pigmentation on his face. I felt bad for him. Then I got closer and it looked like sunburn. Then I got closer and it was obviously from skiing. I hate him.
Wandering on some more and I passed a guy with a small kid who decided, at the very moment that I was passing them, to spit very close to my shoes. What’s wrong with kids (in general)?!

Speaking of which, I went up to March to visit the family. Dominic was keen to do some cooking so we baked muffins (which were actually made out of a cake mix and turned into cupcakes). Highlight of my weekend: insisting to Dominic that I didn’t believe he “couldn’t” crack an egg, showing him the easy way of doing it and being almost as excited as he was when he managed it without dropping ANY egg shell in! It was exciting for me.

"Buenos días for helping me!"

That’s right. Watching Hogan Knows Best is fast becoming a hobby of mine. Today the family moved to Miami where everyone in their neighbourhood spoke Spanish and very little English. The above quote from a scene where Hulk Hogan bought wiener enhancing supplements/cream. Wet-yourself funny! (If not a little offensive.)

I'm dreaming of a white… Easter?

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Yup, it snowed on Sunday morning and Monday too. And it was cold!

Most of the weekend was spent with Meg, Polish-Mexican food on Friday, Borough market for souvlaki then onto Wahaca on Saturday and a home cooked breakfast on Sunday… I’m pretty sure we did more than just eat all weekend…

I am back at the gym in full force. I’ve made peace with the elliptical and am going for a more comparable exercise rather than qualitative one.

The cat that I now live with (I also moved on Thursday evening) is nutty. It’s still a kitten and is couped up all the time in the flat, 24/7, so I can understand why. The pre-6am wake up calls are fun… ahem. As is the jumping back and forth across my room pouncing on imaginary prey that of of course lives in a pile of rustle-y plastic bags. Yes, I enjoy living with a cat again.

Back to the old days… I got home close on 9 o’clock and cooked dinner. Who said the gym isn’t fun?!

6 years on

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Yup, six years ago I officially became a scubadiving instructor. Out on the south coast of windy ole Wellington I was offered the long-awaited handashake and handed my certificate (which very nearly blew away). Good times.

elliptical

Monday, March 17th, 2008

I’m quite annoyed at the whole elliptical thing. How is it possible that in 45 minutes I managed to go less than 3km?! 3km!!! I worked it out and I dawdle at a rate of 4km an hour. If that’s the case then in 45 minutes I can go 3 km without breaking a sweat. Instead, the elliptical tells me I have busted a gut and sweat a bucketload all for the satisfaction of less than 3ks. WTF?! What kind of evil exercise is it trying to mimic?! (Wikipedia says walking/running.) I’m now going to ignore how far I apparently go and just benchmark it. Sigh. Stupid technology.

where'd you come from?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

On my way to meet Ed for a trip to the Apple store on Friday night and to my amazement I walked past a guy I used to be semi-friends with in first-year at uni. Just walking along Leicester Square in the opposite direction… whatevers.

On more interesting news Eddy is now the proud owner of a silver iPod shuffle (2nd generation, I might add).

My weekend was spent cooking and eating and sleeping. Well, not just that, I managed to trek all over zone 1 on Saturday doing various bits and bobs and tiring myself out at the gym enough to justify spending the rest of the weekend blobbing. My dim sim recipe needs work (must remember less cornflour, more salt and sugar). My bbq pork strips also need work (add hoisin sauce and more sauce in general).

Now it’s Monday morning and it all starts over again. Kind of like this guy.

say it right

I am getting a real headache from all the horrible pronounciation on tv. I’m not being snobby, anyone would (or should) baulk at guacamole being pronounced so that it rhymes with whack-a-mole! And that woman on Supersize vs Superskinny should really learn how to not pronounce bolognese with an audible and very hard G. Don’t even get me started on taGliatelle!

busy

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Have I really been too busy to update my blog? Possibly.

Let’s do an omnibus…

The other week me and Ed were on the train (overground, not the tube) and there were these two lovely (ahem) girls on the train with horrible British accents (the one where the letter T is non-existent) who thought they’d yell at the top of their lungs at a Polish guy who thought it best to yell back. Aside from the screams of, “Go back to your own f**king country!” and getting up in his face, my favourite part would have to be when she started threatening this guy: she started off by saying she was gonna hit him, then punch him, then kick him in the mouth then stab him, then suddenly she made a U-turn and said she was going to hit him with her handbag… WTF?! All I could say was if she was actually serious she would have done it by now. All Ed could say was that he was proud to be British.

Last Saturday on mine and Moggy’s big day out we ended up with a lot of weird stuff in ur stomachs. It’s actually quite disturbing what was swilling around by time we got home:

  • cooked breakfast: bacon, potato waffles, egg
  • vodka cranberry
  • mojito, chorizo, fish croquette, lamb, fried potatoes, garlic chicken, bread and butter
  • piña colada
  • gourmet jelly beans
  • spiced peach mojito and hustler cocktail
  • sour cream and chives Pringles before bed

I would be disgusted with myself if I wasn’t so gosh darn proud.

Wednesday me, Moggy and Andrea met up for Wahaca… mmmm… and followed it up with another trip to CyberCandy! That place has awesome stuff… not including the chocolate with bacon bits that we found on our Saturday night out…

I finished High Fidelity before the end of February and started back on The Devil Wears Prada which ended up being surprisingly good but not like the movie (which was better). Now I need something else plough through…

Ending the weekend on a high note, I beat my whole virtual Super 14 mates list this week, score!

swipe swipe

How awesome is Check this?! Now all he needs is one of those swipe-y card things that lets you pay for stuff up to £10 embedded in his other arm and he’s set.

Rome, Paris, Lille, Brussels, Lille

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Planning a trip isn’t as easy as it seems. Why can’t flight prices stay the same? And why can’t Eurostar prices keep still while I try to decide which ones I want?! It’s looking like Lille in April at the moment… that will change by the morning.

I won’t know before then anyways coz I think I broke the website.
