The Wedding: Episode III

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Up to Titchmarsh for Judith and Steve’s wedding. Being the lovely housewife I am I had dinner ready to go when Ed got home, yummy carbonara. Grabbed our stuff and we were off. Once in Titchmarsh we ended up in the teapot room. Across the road for a quick drinkee and the yummiest fish & chips.

Saturday and it was all on. Off to Judith’s to see the blushing bride-to-be, photograph some flowers, watch people running around… ya know, the norm. Then me, Ed and Denham were off to the church to drop off flowers and do the ribbons. Who woulda thought it would take so long?!

Then to the reception venue to set the cake up and make some last minute adjustments to the previously crushed cake.

The actual wedding was great. Nice church, good weather, cute kids. The canapés were yummy but I didn’t make it to the main course. Drinking a glass on Baileys on an empty stomach tends to leave you feeling lightheaded. A quick lie down and I was thankful for the hog roast later on in the night.

A night of dancing with children and chatting with grown ups and general frivolity. I must say, having kids at weddings is great! When you want lollies from the lolly jar you just have to grab a kid and they’re more than happy to run and get them for you!

A few drunken antics (not mine) and the night was over.

That was the last of the three summer weddings in three weeks and not one of them rained out. A modern day British miracle.

bank holiday

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Being a bank holiday weekend me and Ed decided to venture up to March and visit Belinda et al. I’m not sure if you’d call it regret but after being used as a climbing frame, cricket coach, fencing partner and general play toy I’m pretty sure regret is as good a word as any to describe Ed’s feelings.

breakfast of champions

I’m not following the whole Olympics thing but if there’s one thing that I do follow it’s food and I wonder if I could deal with the Michael Phelps style way of eating.

Breakfast:

  • 3 fried egg sandwiches with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise
  • 2 cups of coffee
  • 1 five egg omelette
  • 1 bowl of grits
  • 3 slices of French toast with powdered sugar
  • 3 chocolate chip pancakes

Lunch:

  • 1lb of pasta
  • 2 large ham and cheese sandwiches with mayo on white bread
  • 1000 calories of energy drinks

Dinner:

  • 1lb of pasta
  • 1 pizza
  • 1000 calories of energy drinks

That’s 12000 calories a day. His stomach must be the size of a bowling ball! What happens when he stops training? How does he not throw up when he jumps in the pool? Should I start swimming miles and miles every day so I can eat that much too?

I’m always up for a challenge.

wedding 2 of 3

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Had a fabulous time at Ivan’s wedding on Saturday. Me and Eddy left late so we missed out on Borough Market but made it in time for a pre-wedding drink and nibbles.

The bride was fashionably late but sported an awesome dress with about a million buttons so all was forgiven. I tried out the sport mode on my big camera which was great for getting the shots but not so good on the focus front so I will be altering my technique for Judith’s wedding and attacking Ivan’s pics with Photoshop.

Being over 6ft Eddy got the Flip and provided the video action for the ceremony (good thing too or else it could very well have been bumshots the whole day). A nice quick ceremony with a slight back up to sing a hymn that got overlooked and we were out on the pavement.

Wandered down to Chiswick House with Michelle, Vicky and partners and had the yummiest canapés ever! Chorizo, gazpacho soup in bottles, mini paellas, tempura tuna with wasabi, peach-prosciutto-cheese-rosemary skewers… one more chorizo and I would have popped!

Round us up for a quick photo and inside for food and wine! Such a great choice of red wine I didn’t even bother with the white. Nectarine soup for dessert. Cut the cake. Speeches and about a thousand gifts to all the helpers. The first dance with each oooooohhhhhh factor. Chocolate wedding cake and lemon wedding cake. A great band. The hunt for the groom to say our goodbyes. Then trying to find our way home before the tube closed (mission unaccomplished so it was a taxi and three buses home. What a trooper.)

Fantastic day.

it's all welly-wanging piggy helium fun!

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Nigel and Sarah’s wedding on Friday was fantastic. Where else could you go for a welly wanging and tug-of-war?! Add a hog roast with perfect crackling and Pimms to boot and you’ve got yourself a party! Did I forget to mention that I got the furtherest of the girls throws with 16.10 metres?!

I now realise the problem of not visiting rellies often enough when my 3 month old cousin (once removed) is suddenly 13 months and walking. Scary thing was how much he looked like Jason… I didn’t think babies looked like anyone! Frank was less than impressed with me until the night wore on and he realised I was tall enough to reach the helium balloons in the marquee. He also warmed to Ed after he inhaled a few balloonfulls of helium and had a wee high-pitched chat with Frank.

Thank goodness for the Golden Ball being stumbling distance from the reception and for them doing a cooked breakfast in the morning!

He was way ahead of his time in 1994. In D2: The Mighty Ducks he was wearing a keffiyeh now loved by emos (and me) the world over.
