Sunday, November 30th, 2008the All Blacks & Simple Plan
Sunday, November 30th, 2008Me and Ed must be the only two people ever to watch a rugby match then head off to see Simple Plan live.
The pessimistic view: today I went and watched 30 people working (on a rugby field) and then five people working (on a stage). You think they’re having fun coz it’s called “playing” but it’s just work for them. When you put it that way it sounds so incredibly boring.
blackberry
Saturday, November 29th, 2008Just like Google replaced the need to remember how to do things my blackberry has replaced the need to know where I am. Why? Coz the GPS will tell me!
I don’t know if this is a good thing or not…
flathunting
Thursday, November 27th, 2008I forgot how much I hate flathunting. This time I’m adopting a recipe using a mixture of location and potential flatmates. I’m sure I’ll find a winner soon but that hasn’t really worked for the last 9 flatmates I’ve had. Sigh.
snoopy
Wednesday, November 26th, 2008When I started my last job I asked Meg if I should take the Snoopy tote bag to work or would I forever be known as the Snoopy-bag-girl. Her answer: they may as well know the real you on the first day. Decision made.
white
Tuesday, November 25th, 2008I wasn’t allowed to buy white clothes until I was around 14. I say fair call too coz I’m a grubby lil bugger at the best of times.
useless
Monday, November 24th, 2008There are skills you learn in life that later come in useful. Addition, for example. That comes in handy all the time. Tying knots. Remembering who won the 1994 Fifa World Cup (Brazil). But I have yet to find another use for knowing how to say “the Treaty of Waitangi is more important than Anzac Day” in Māori. I learnt it in high school for a debate and still remember it to this day but have yet to find another use for it. Talk about wasted brain cells.
recyclables
Sunday, November 23rd, 2008Deciding what should go in the recycling and what shouldn’t always baffles me. For ages you couldn’t recycle plastic milk bottles then suddenly you could. Egg cartons look like they should be recycled but they’re not accepted in the UK (I don’t think). And plastic… which suburbs allow plastic to be recycled and which don’t?! Why is it so difficult?!
grandad
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008One of my earliest memories was of my grandad. We were in Hong Kong and I remember running to him because he was peeling lychees and eating them. I remember him feeding them to me (I was only three) with his well worn hands.
When I was in primary school mum used to pick me up but one day she sent him instead. I refused to get in the car with him because I was worried that mum was coming and if I went with him she would think I had gone missing. Needless to say he was hopping mad by time he coaxed me into the car.
On school holidays he used to take all of his grandkids out to “yum cha” which was usually at Robert Harris. When there were only a few of us he would buy us each a toy. By time you’ve had 12 grandkids it just gets a little silly! Then he’d take us to Countdown to buy whatever we wanted. Good times.
On my recent trip back to NZ I went to his house and while he was busy doing something I went through his old passports. He’s been to New Caledonia, Japan, Thailand, the States, the UK to name a few. I didn’t realise he’d ever been to the UK before. Weird.
While back I also scanned some old photos of him including one of him wearing a toupée! Nice work!
doggie bags
Friday, November 21st, 2008Seeing as we’re living in the time of credit crunches, climate change and starving children the world over why is it that I have yet to go to a restaurant in London that offers doggie bags?! Is it really that difficult. Every restaurant in the States has the option of doggie bags at no extra charge. Heck I’d be willing to pay an extra £1 for the packaging if it meant that I could take half of a giant meal home with me.
