resolutions 2009 round-up

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Well, I’ve generally been rubbish at updating this blog and keeping up to date with where I’m at with my resolutions but here is the 31 December round-up:

  • photos: I didn’t take a photo every day (except for the time period between 31 May to 22 June. I do have a photo of myself on the first date of every month. I just need to find them… The best photo-related news this year is scoring a photo pass to the Green Day I was as close as I’ll probably ever get to Billie Joe Armstrong and even scored an all access pass (which I didn’t use for fear of it being confiscated). This will be a resolution I repeat year after year.
  • ski trip: I finally made it skiing in Flumserberg, Switzerland back in January.
  • Rubix Cube comp/air guitar comp/La Tomatina: Due to timing La Tomatina is the only one of these I made it to this year but it was fantastic! A crazy, smelly day!
  • music festival: Rock Werchter was the best first festival experience ever and I’ve even got my tickets for next year!
  • concerts: Nek in April, Green Day in May AND October, Rock Werchter (where I got to see one of Oasis’ (possibly) last shows ever).
  • learn Spanish: when will I ever learn?? I think I need to move to Mexico then learn it properly once and for all. Although people could understand me when I was in Valencia (even better, I could understand them too!).
  • free range chicken and eggs: I didn’t always get the free range chicken but I stuck at it with the eggs. I may have to stick with this one for a while.
  • grow something: the fourth plant of the year won’t die no matter how much I neglect it so I may just be getting better at this. Either that or the flat is getting more and more damp.
  • books: I didn’t read The Fountainhead. I didn’t even read the ones I’ve bought since that. Think I know what next year’s resolution is gonna be.
  • gym: I sucked big time this year. Too much travelling and getting sick to focus on the gym. Poor poor excuse.

Now for a resolution I made in March but didn’t write here. Go out of England once a month, every month. And shock horror… I did it:

9-12 January – skiing in Flumserberg, Switzerland
13-15 February – visiting Conny in Mannheim, Germany
28-29 March – Brussels, Belgium
18-19 April – Nek concert in Brescia, Italy
9-10 May – Green Day gig in Cologne, Germany with Tom
30 May – 22 June – Egpyt & Jordan
2-6 July – Rock Werchter with Andrew in Werchter, Belgium
10-12 July – visiting Enrico in Pordenone, Italy
24-27 August – La Tomatina in Valencia/Buñol, Spain
19-20 September – Glasgow, Scotland
10-11 October – Nice, France & Monte-Carlo, Monaco with Tom
24 October – 1 November – visiting grandparents in Napier, New Zealand
27-29 November – visiting Conny in Mannheim, Germany
12-13 December – Bruges, Belgium with Tom

That’s 14 trips away, 20+ cities, 11 countries, countless number of photos, great times all round.

toast

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

“I love toast. I really do. Toast is just about the best food there is. You take a slice of humble white bread (never brown) and you put it in a toaster (What is it? It’s a toaster! What does it do? It makes toast!) and a few minutes later you have a hot nutritious meal. You can put any foodstuff handy from the fridge on top of it and it will pretty much always taste fan-bloody-tastic. Toast, I thought, as two slices popped up, makes a whole lot more sense than chocolate bars.
