Now I also think that this would go fabulously in my home-to-be:

Red Crosley 1950s Payphone
retro phone

And I’d have to decide between these three:

Barber Shop Bullet Trash Can
Barber Shop bin

Eye Chart Bullet Trash Can

Clean Restrooms Bullet Trash Can
Approved Clean Rest Rooms bin

All from the lovely RetroPlanet.com

Look what I stumbled upon today:

And “only” $899 from RetroPlanet.com. Add it to the list of things to buy for my, as of this moment, non-existent home.

my apologies to Mark-Paul Gosselaar

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

I need to make a change to my laminated list. I know that it’s laminated so in theory you can’t change it… but I’m gonna. The new list bumps Mark-Paul Gosselaar for Milo Ventimiglia.

Billie Joe Armstrong
Pierre Bouvier
Milo Ventimiglia
Ryan Reynolds
Paul Rudd

Now I only have one semi-blonde on the list. But this time I think I have listed them in order. Oh Billie Joe, you’ll always be my number 1.

Oh swoon.

a very vintage weekend

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Last night me and Tom drove up to Napier. We got in about 8:30 and had a yummy dinner which included roast pork. We’ve had so much of it lately but I swear it never gets old.

Me, mum and dad were going through some photos on the computer trying to put them into chronological order. I mentioned that I liked Por Por’s dress in one of the photos and mum said it was “just over there”. So I jumped up and put it on (over my normal clothes). Amazingly, it fit! I’ve been reading through Elsie’s posts over the last couple of weeks and the vintage thing has really got me interested. This dress is pure vintage and I love it!

This morning I went to Por Por’s house to go through her clothes and I found a heap more vintage stuff. Dresses that were made in New Zealand (!) way back in the 50s/60s/70s/who knows when. They proudly boast labels which read: 100% polyester. It’s amazing! Some of them had never been worn before. Some still had the price tags on.

As sad as it was going through everything it was great seeing all the stuff she had. I even unearthed a whole box (and another container) full of knitting needles. So I kept those and grabbed a bag of yarn. Now with my semi-unemployed status I’m going to try and learn to knit again. With the internet it can’t be that hard, right?

I also took away a few hand-knitted cardigans. I couldn’t bear the thought of all of them being donated so I now have the funkiest coloured ones along with two rubbish bags full of clothes and a furry pink hat with the most gorgeous detailing.

What can I say, I get bored easily. If only I could use one of them for my LinkedIn profile.

mini zucchini frittuffins

Friday, March 18th, 2011

A couple of weeks ago mum told me I “needed” to use up some of her FlyBuys points so after scouring the site I decided on the Pattie cupcake maker. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go down but I LOVE it!

So far I’ve only made savoury muffins and this is the best recipe. Super easy and yummy! They’re half way between a frittata and a muffin hence “frittuffin”. It sounds a little too cutesy for me but hey, they’re tasty so who cares!

the finished product: mini frittuffins

Ingredients
1 grated zucchini
1 small chopped onion
½c grated tasty cheese
1 egg
¼c self-raising flour

Method

  1. Turn on your fabulous Pattie cupcake maker to preheat.
  2. Mix zucchini and onion in a bowl and microwave on high for 1 minute.
  3. Add grated cheese to the bowl and stir in the egg.
  4. Sprinkle flour into the bowl then stir gently to combine.
  5. Place spoonfuls into the cupcake maker and cook for 10 minutes.

Makes 5-ish.

No boozing today, just a few pics on my walk into town.

This is the second time I’ve walked past this funky caravan on Ghuznee Street:

I’m holdin’ out for a sale

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

Well, it worked! I’ve been waiting for my flights to Vietnam to go on sale and they finally did. So instead of paying $529 for a one way flight from Auckland to Ho Chi Minh City I paid $329!

Plus I managed to snag a $1 bus ride from Napier to Auckland for the day before – for both me and Tom. It just gets better and better!
