jetlag vs hangover

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Today jetlag is drawing a lot of similarities to a hangover. Let me explain further. I went to bed before 9pm last night, I passed out before 10pm, I didn’t set my alarm before doing so, I had to be woken up at 8:30, dreaded riding the tube, had a dodgy stomach all morning and cottage pie, aka comfort food, from Tesco for lunch. Oh, and I feel the need to drink massive amounts of water.

TwitterFox

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

I’m a little slow to the party but today I installed TwitterFox and it has revolutionised me. I only stepped up my tweeting last week and now run three Twitter accounts for different purposes.

My first account is my personal account. My second one is purely to update Facebook with (because people don’t need a play-by-play of my day). My third one is for work.

I started using TweetDeck but it’s only useful when I am sitting in front of my home laptop. As soon as I get to work I have the rules and regulations dumped upon me which dictate I’m not allowed to install anything onto my PC without first asking permission. Enter TwitterFox.

Seeing as I already have Firefox installed at work I can add add-ons as I please. A quick restart and bing-bang-boom, TwitterFox is installed on my PC. I can enter in the login details for all three of my accounts and switch between them with ease. Seeing as I have Firefox open all day it means I can jump in and update with the click of a mouse.

Even better, I can set notifications that let me know when people I’m following have tweeted. And the jackpot: it notifies me when I have @replies/mentions. Before I had to consciously remember to check them which often left questions unanswered for days at a time.

In short: all hail TwitterFox.

the tickets

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

The day started with a leisurely 7am wake up call. Due to a debacle with my bank cards I decided to go to St Pancras 2 hours before departure in case I had to have some stern words with a supervisor to get my tickets.

To my surprise I went to the ticket machine and (once I figured out where to put my card) got my tickets for today with no problem. Am even more grateful that my booking reference was so easy to remember (SACPAX) so no fumbling with printouts,

Not wanting to tempt fate I also printed my tickets that I had booked for Rock Werchter in July.

minds for the moulding

It is funny the things you get told as a kid that you just believe on blind faith. It’s even funnier the things that stick with you into your adult life.

For example, when I was in standard 2 (around 7 or 8 years old) my teacher, Mr Hoggard, told us not to lean on the radiators in class because they would melt away the fat from around your kidneys and you need that fat to keep your kidneys warm.

This is something that I never quite forgot  and it wasn’t until recently that I actually thought about this and realised how stupid I was to believe him. After all, if melting fat from your body was that easy then losing weight would be a cinch. Just turn your radiator up to full and lean away.

Maybe I should go easy on myself seeing as I was only 7 or 8 but doesn’t this say more about the teacher? You have children’s minds in your hands and what you say actually has a long term impact. Think about it.
